Hey Guys,
Just help me out with this one now ...:o
I got a new machine in my office for work ...
The Configurations ..
20 GB HDD ...
256 MB DDR RAM ..

Now in this I installed Photoshop 7 ... In this whenever I open a PSD file ...
And while opening it is good till Opening Photoshop file ... and as soon as it comes to detecting watermark it freezes ... ultimately ...in 30-50 seconds it freezes anyhow ...
I tried everything
Updated Display Drivers ...
Tried from a new setup file ...

Now RAM is definitely not the issue since it's well abiove the minimum requirement ...
It is able to open Macromedia Dreamweaver/FLash & Fireworks together ...
FL Studio works fine ....
Now don't eye me ..I even tried uninstalling all these applications ...
Read about Photoshop in adobe's support site !!!
Any of you faced similar problems ?? and can help me out ??
Thanks,
Abhishek

It might be a ram problem after all.

You have 256Mb of Ram.

Let's say that you open a large PSD file. About 10Mb.
This doesn't mean that this file will be 10Mb of Ram, no no......it will be more like 150Mb of Ram.

This might sound rediculous, but it's a fact. Photoshop takes up a huge amount of resources. And then you still have the internet running, your operating system, all processes, etc.

This is all I can think of. Computers really are so complicated. You can never be completely sure what the problem might be.

The minimum requirement for Photoshop 7 is 192 MB ram ...
and this box doesnt even have an internet connection ...
Also the same is for even 1-2 MB Photoshop files ... :(

Check in preferences and try fiddling around with the scratch disk values.

Does this happen to all your psd files?

Try opening ps and make a new psd. Save it and reopen it.

I have PS7 running on a PIII600 with 20gbhd and 256mb ram with no problem.

I just opened a 671k image with no sign of a tremble in the program.

Are you opening files from a remote, shared or external disk.

Checking PS7 preferences for memory image cache shows 213mb ram available with my max used byPS7 at 50 which uses 106mb ram. cache is set for 4.

Scratch disk is first: "startup"

Where is your scratch disk pointed to

You can set your undo process to a limited number in preferences. I find 20 is enough for anything. Stacking up a large history just in case you may have to undo 100 times is draining also.
