I used HotDogPro from Sausage Software for years. Since version 2.0 I believe. Loved it.

I recently moved over to CoffeeCup and haven't looked back.

However I'm looking for one that has better CSS controls and I was wondering about Dreamweaver. Any have opinions? What do you use?

dreamweaver is the best.
not for the wysiwyg editing, but for the nice text editor, which has autocomplete, synthax highlighting & code validation feature.

also, if you use dynamic data you can define a server where to test your site using dw...

I taught myself HTML on notepad. I like the code highlighting now, as I get careless sometimes. :)

I don't like WYSIWYG editors. Is Dreamweaver WYSIWYG? I am ashamed to say I know little about it.

yes it is. but it doesnt mean you have to edit your page visually. if you do mainly css, you can use the "code view" instead - trust me, its better than notepad :).
the visual mode (wysiwyg) is usefull if you are using tables...

by the way, did you hear that adobe bought macromedia ?

I never migrated to CS2 either. Considered it strongly though...

Digital Nature :

First of all, I'd like to know what you don't enjoy about Photoshop CS2? It is great. It gives you so much more than Photoshop7...........REALLY!!! If you are a real designer, and you require the right tools to create good designs, then you would have switched over to CS2. I can point the facts out if you really need me to.

Another thing. I do use Dreamweaver 8, and it is great. I really enjoy it, but myself, and many other people I know, constantly experience annoying problems with Dreamweaver. I have a very close friend whom runs a web company. He is an expert in PHP, MySQL, HTML, SEO, etc. He's been doing this for 6years now, and guess what his comment is??? *Only use Notepad. He has come a long road with coding, and really knows what he is doing. Unfortunately I am not good enough to create straight code in Notepad, but I wish I were. My opinion is that one should get familiar enough with the work which you are interested, and push yourself to the point where you can flawlessly create a complete site, coding by hand. That would be the right way to do it.;)

IRN101 :

Yes, Dreamweaver is both WYSIWYG and coding. You can switch between three views. Code ; Visual ; Split.
Even though you might decide to use Dreamweaver for it's highlighting, autocomplete, easy object integration, etc, that is good. Try to keep your application on 'Code' view at all times. This is really the more accurate way to do it, since the 'Visual' view will give you many unexpected problems.

Use the 'Code' view to code your site like you would, using Notepad. I've been experiencing very annoying issues with Dreamweaver regarding CSS, Layers, etc.....................and I am not the only one. I constantly hear other coders complaining about the same issue.

Everyone out there whom might be using Dreamweaver, come and tell us what you think, and what you have experienced!? I am not saying that Dreamweaver is a useless application, for I have to admit that I use it myself. Sometimes I just have to continue with the coding, and try my best to ignore those irritating bugs.

CS2 has the same features as ps 7 - besides the clipping groups & the ability to select multiple layers - all other addon features are almost useless...

the thing that makes me stay away from cs 2 is the extremely high memory & cpu usage. cs 2 is _very_ slow :(

Check this out (http://www.kanzelsberger.com/pixel/?page_id=12) - a serious 10 MB (!) alternative to photoshop!

...using notepad just because is somewhat harder to work with (and thats because of the code highlighting) is just stupid.

Contrid: I do create my sites by hand. If you haven't tried something like CoffeeCup then you don't know the difference.

Code completion, drop-in tags, etc. It makes the process much smoother. Conversion to XML and XHTML. Very cool. But the CSS formatting is lacking...

photoshop to dreamweaver, baby! I wouldn't know code from a hungarian fishmonger.

So you mean all those who are not using CS2 are "unreal" designers? :p

Its very funny to see people discussing stuff which runs on exclusively on Windoze OS, well NVU is still my best bet, because I have got some clients who do not really know what actually is Windoze. :o

I use DW too. For them who "loves" notepad for html authoring in the XHTML era, its same as using the Alexnder Graham Bell telephone set on your superfast digital phone line...and if you know how many characters notepad actually supports, you will rather love to switch to something else, wordpad maybe :D.

To tell you the truth I'm getting pretty fed up of paying for updates. Photoshop cs may be lots better, but if I can still do my job with 7.0 why should I bother forking out more money?

At the end of the day programmes are just tools.
