[PS: Mods - I am not advertising AMD here neither the posting of the link has any other objective than mere product comparision. Thanks.]

I've always been an Intel Loyal and still remain same. Go in history and you'll see how AMD and Intel have gone in long run. BTW, even iam not advertising Intel here ;)

I always get skeptical .. with everything else you should look at the intended use of the box you're buying.

If , lets say you want to really make MySQL scream by building it yourself with pgcc and taking out a bunch of crap you don't use, you would want Intel.

If you want to do certain tricks with triggering processes on certain OpenSSI (and Mosix) clusters, you wanna use intel.

If you want (just) apache to scream use amd.

If you want to have fun kernel hacking, close your eyes and pick one.

It is unwise to be blindly partial to one or the other. Use whichever best suits the purpose at hand, imho. :)

Let's all go back to using Z80s - wonderful little chip.

Best computer ever made used a Z80: The mighty ZX Spectrum!

Best game ever was written on a Spectrum: Jet Set Willy!

I rest my case.

And yes. In case you're wondering, I'm suffering from sleep deprivation and posting odd messages on random forums.

I'd much rather have a 6502 ... man I miss my Commie :(

I started on a 80486 DX2 with 8 Mb of Ram and 650 Mb of HDD Running DOS 5.00. Was a die hard fan of FoxPro then. I remember loading Win 3.11 with 39 Floppies one by one. What a pain! But yes that 486 was like butter to work with.

PS: I now miss the adventure of playing Prince of Persia 1 on that box. Believe me whoever has not played Prince of Persia on a 486 with your PC Speakers as the sound element and a VGA monitor...you have *really* missed something.:D

POP passed me by.

I was too busy playing Lemmings, Xenon 2 and the next best game ever made - Syndicate.

This was at the time when we considered playing Doom I with 2 PCs and a 50 foot serial cable (strung outside the building between 2 floors) the ultimate multiplayer experience.

Oh, and I'll never forget bloody Tetris!

( It was 40+ diskettes to load some versions of OS/2 BTW ;) )
