I am having an ecommerce website designed that will use PayPal as the payment gateway. My designer is telling me that he doesn't want to have access to my account (he does have a great reputation) and that I should provide him with the script. Quite frankly I don't even know what he is talking about or how to get a script.
When I had put the project up for bid it had clearly said paypal integration.I am pretty certain(?) he should have access in order to enable some features. It's a new account and there are no funds there as yet.
I am sure it is because of my lack of knowledge in this field why I am a bit confused so any enlightenment on the issue would be greatly appreciated.

IMO
NO one will EVER need access to you PayPal account.
and good programmer or designer can walk you through any changes needed.
online or via phone.
Contact PayPay
you can view the help center here

Uses payment processors: PayPal, E-Gold, Clickbank, 2checkout and Authorize.net
on scrplance the Payment Gateway is a script

The programmer is asking for your e-commerce script and not your Paypal account access. When you have mentioned here that you are integrating Paypal to an ecommerce website, its quite normal you will be using an ecommerce script. If you are not certain google search "ecommerce script". If you are selling just one product like an ebook or a software then certainly it is not an ecommerce site.
And secondly Paypal has a sandbox option to TEST integrations.

Thanks graphicsguru and hexadesigns for the very helpful reply.
For hexadesigns; I know that my designer doesn't want access to my account. That was really why I was puzzled because I thought access was needed to enable features. However graphicsguru has explained that any good programmer or designer can help with feature mods.
Also hexadesigns I am not selling a software or a book, it is a whole catalog of products.
