I don’t want a Programmer’s or Designer's answer, I don’t want a Web Master’s answer, what I’m after is your personal opinion, from a web browser’s (surfers) point of view.

Which of the polled templates vendors is the most appealing to you when you’re scanning the web for; perhaps a certain product or service or just reference information?

i need to understand first.. why you have give options like "oscommerce" "template monster"??

i would give "google" "scriptlance" "BBC" site wise options

or

i would give "news" "articles" "blog" "forums" "games" etc.. subjest wise..

thanks

I’m referring to the basic layout and design, not the topic or subject matter.

parden me but you have wrote in question

"What Do You Like To See When Surfing The Web?" i understand by this sentence.. that .. which type of site [what do you like] i would like to visit.."

i think you should post question like this

"Which type of layout you would like to see while surfing the web"? just clearify you intention of "layout"

isnt it?

"What Do You Like To See When Surfing The Web?"

I’m sorry, but I can’t seem to find the aforementioned “quote” that you made reference to in either of my two posted listings that I have made earlier today.

I would have to say, I prefer to see a really good Handcoded website...
All the designers out there that go and get a template monster account and then reproduce those templates for a client I feel are fakes... So I would definately have to say that I would prefer to go to a website and notice and feel that it is their own work and it is also then handcoded by them... Not copied...

We need more freelancers that get jobs, and get the work they need... :D

ie. ME :D

Well, I think this is a great website guys.. :D

I am fond of flash sites. Noadays, everyone with SWiSH or Flash can make a website. This is fine, but it's starting to give Flash a bad name. Im seeing the same graphics, effects and music on most sites.
People like DerBauer (http://www.derbauer.de/) pushes the Flash envelope!
I think adding some typewritter effects to a static site isn't flash programming, just annoying!

I must say that the best flash website I have seen in the past 2 years has to be www.2advanced.com

Man if I could build that then, I could easily call myself a flash developer... If anyone could built that, they too could become a flash DEVELOPER...

But yea like you say, a typewriter effect on a static website, I think that is lame...

A bit like my website lol...

I like Eric over at 2AD but thier new site isn't as good as their old site. (http://www.2advanced.com/archive/v3/flashindex.htm)
The previous version was much better then the new.

Yea I much prefer their old version, all that 2advanced had to do was to change the design a little, and then it would have been good :( Real Good!!!

hello tom,
I prefer a well done FLASH site to HTML bcos HTML can be boring
Im a designer / artist / cretive writer by dementia and I´ve been rather lucky to be able to work on the biggest advertising account on this planet PEPSI/PEPSICO, so Ive had bosses that know nothing about the creative impulse or process and bosses that know nothing but; the little I know about any kind of hand written code comes from sweat, curiosity and a bit of affection, not inlcination or even affectation ....

4 me FLASH:Internet is like L**:senses, a welcome overload that helped me use more than one sense AND added the capability to develop creatively ...

BUT with the terrible disparity I experience in tastes and Internet connections Im v often forced to go sub-zero and dumb up, AND when a client who knows-it-all but cant pay more than 150 USD lands on me I often figure a lil cash in exchange for tripe is a fair deal; why throw the hog at my pearls ?

To sum up I love all things FLASH and infact all things visually stimulating, the 80s were the era of the " visual - pun " , today we are almost post eye-candy-Internet with applications and web-services coming of age, FLASH scored in the eye-candy era and again in the application arena - provided one knows what needs doing,

thx for starting an interesting thread
PS: pl browse over to www.dna-newmedia.com dunno whodunnit but if one is looking to take those blinkers off, this and also another URL in a post here are wonderful starts....there are many good graphic designers and many good FLASH programmers around, rarely in the same body.

The combo of visual genius and prgramming genius is my muse an wher Im pushing my mind and work.

thx for reading,
vliws

the internet has not yet attracted - it will - as many creatives as commercial art / advertising did in the 70s - reason? a successful copywriter or market-analyst / account manager makes 5 times or more than even a FLASH pioneer bcos the former are seen as powerful marketing resource and the latter as geeks to serve them,

the internet is still " new-media " like the moving type was when most of europe was still learning the alphabet...when the interfaces are not so intimidating and r as easy to use and access as a wristwatch ....give it 10 to 15 years, once the corporate commuinication/cosmetics/music/porno industry has hired the best engineers and FLASH gurus and teamed them with afore- mentoned creatives and market-analysts to prove u can make tons of $ SECURELY on-line too, of course we as commercial users get what got thrown out of research as junk 20 years ago .....
(every good pece of communication needs a central / focal idea - and a gimmick isn´t one)

thx for ur time

It depends on the site and why I'm there...
if I'm just surfing around looking for interesting stuff, I like unique, well-designed sites, with or without flash really as long as they're interesting. If I'm working or doing research, they just get annoying tho and I prefer simple html/php sites.

For example, if scriptlance were some elaborate flash setup with complex page transitions, it would have gotten on my nerves by now as much as I use the site. If I'm going to a game company's site for info about their games, or an emag for entertainment news or the like, then the more dynamic and interesting the site design the better.

Basicly, there is no one type of design that I always prefer to see - each site has it's own appropriate and inappropriate designs, depending on the purpose of the site (and a bit more subjectively my particular purpose there)
