Just found this article about web 2.0

I thought it was a really good article, but being completely sh*te when it comes to web design, I was wondering what you experts thought. :D

here (http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/web-2.0-design-style-guide.cfm)

I think too many people get hyped up on "web 2.0". It is a neat buzzword, but it isn't anything really new. Simple clean design has ALWAYS been better.

I didn't find the article too cohesive.

Yeah. Web 2.0 big thing. And what you say about 3.0 ???
I don`t know who developing this but in that way in 2010 we get projects web 500.0 :)

So there's no actual coding difference? Just, like...reflections?

I don`t know from coder side, but from designer yes. Design looks more pastel. Using more gradients, glassy, shining effects. No big deal. Some people long time ago made this kind of design and nobody calls it 2.0 ;)

Web 2.0 is really about interoperability between features, between sites, and between the web and the desktop.

Some examples.

Google Docs and Spreadsheets is web 2.0 because it's basically a desktop app ported to the web. Many businesses are already using it instead of MS Office.

GMail is web 2.0 because you can do so many different things on the same screen - it has an RSS reader, makes heavy and effective use of AJAX, and provides modules that you can implant onto other web pages that are more advanced than simple RSS.

Google Maps is web 2.0 because it further illustrates the remote module feature. You write a tiny bit of javascript and viola, you have a fully functional Google Maps instance on any web page.

Ebay is not web 2.0 because although it is very powerful, almost everything you do there is encapsulated into Ebay itself - the only prevalent third-party features are hit counters, payment gateways, and such things that have always been available.

Blogs, shopping systems, more basic uses of AJAX or DHTML, rollover buttons, even Scriptlance itself - none of these are web 2.0.

MySpace is being called web 2.0 but it isn't really. The media has a habit of considering anything that makes use of 3rd party video and audio as web 2.0, but really it's just an extremely configurable blog and forum.

del.icio.us, Greasemonkey, and Mugshot are web 2.0 because their browser add-ons do a lot to merge the desktop and the web in such a way that significantly modifies and streamlines the desktop experience using web-enabled technology. But other add-on empowered sites such as blog posting tools, search bars, SEO data reporting tools, and live bookmarks -- not web 2.0. They are just slightly modified ways of interacting with web 1.0 features.

Web 2.0 was not intended to be a graphic design philosophy, however, because of the widespread use of cross-browser compatible AJAX and the tendency for major web service providers to create Application Programmers' Interfaces (APIs) so that their features can be used cleanly on third-party sites, the visual designs have evolved alongside the programming. It is now more efficient to show less on the screen per each page click because the user can do more with fewer clicks even withstanding less options on the page.

Simple-clean design?????
Are you for real?
LOL
Wow, that is great a philosophy.
So many want to "jazz it up" and then we lose SEO.....

Of course once upon a time I fell under the siren lure of "flash"......

thats stupid.

old & ugly table based designs are much inferior then the clean "web 2.0" style when it comes to SEO. thats because the design is not separated from the html

but using ajax to switch content on your page does affect SEO. SE won't be able to parse you entire site if you're using javascript to call another html page or something...

Hmmm.....

Stupid?

I don't recall saying I wanted anything old or ugly......as you suggest....

I do believe that crisp, clean, imaginative can equal style, style that is well received by the SE(s) as opposed to the onslaught of flash templates which offer problems in SE.

I did not make the previous statement to rule out web 2.0....

Does that help a bit? I really never thought my ideas would be called stupid, but hey, to each his own.

Sounds good, but sometimes it is hard to get a balance...our line of work construction/design is very very visual...
Clients demand to see the finished projects...

And like it not, they literally make the first impression of our companies by the websites! If they do not see an artistic or visually powerful site...we hear about in ways like...
"you won't be doing our house so plainly will you?"
or my favorite...
"I almost did not call you, your site was so unimaginative."

Of course I do not know what software it takes to make a website, "light" fast loading, crisp, clean or SEO friendly...

But I do know what I have to present to our viewers...
guess we are caught between a rock and a hard place (so to speak!)

**Update on manuvers...just got my "Jumper Wings"!!! HURRAH!!!

I know of no professional business that uses these tools for the simple facts that:

google owns your documents
it's still in beta

Remember the loss of gmail-mail some time ago? The official answer to that "well, yeah, what do you expect? We're still in beta".
