Hi there,

I have been working on this project from scrap to bottom and almost 3/4 of it is completed. Still some work to be done on it but at this stage I just need a rough figure of how much this project should be charged at or much do you reckon is worth charging and why, if thats not too much of a hassle.

Here is the link to the website:
http://www.bci.digitalprodusa.net

Can someone please help me out on how to invoice a client for the final development of the website? I feel more comfortable on those who have industry experience. However, anyones opinion is welcome at this stage.

Many thanks in advance.

CHEERS :)

Just out of curiosity, you finished 3/4 of the project and did not finalize the terms of project or payments? What if there is a dispute or if the webmaster does not agree on the pricing. Or am I missing something?

Invoicing a client is pretty simple. Probably you are looking for some information on quotation and project terms?

Here are some of the pointers that will help you decide the price.

1. How much time do you think it will take you to complete the project?
2. Are there any additional expenses involved specific to this project (like development server, fees, etc)
3. What is the general hourly rate for this type of work in your area?
4. Any part of the project needs to be subcontracted? If so, what is the estimated expense for the same?
5. Add other expenses like internet, insurance, electricity.

Once you have figured out these questions, you will have an estimate of your expenses, the desired profit etc. Keeping this in mind, you can easily find out how much you have to charge your client.

When invoicing the client you may not want to add expense heads mentioned above (internet, electricity, subcontractor expenses etc). Its much better to add project related milestones/modules etc in the invoice. This is especially useful if you are planning to raise more than one invoice per project. (like weekly invoices etc).

A very good website on webmaster/programmer related business issues is webmasterworld.com. You will get plenty of information about how to create invoices, how to finalize project and payment terms, Best practices, things to avoid, etc etc on the website.

Cheers!

Thanks Inet for responding,

Reading your feedback has really helped alot. Yea there is something missing and the thing is, I didn't go through the proper channels in doing up a project scope or proposal only cause the client is someone I know.

I just wanted to find out if anyone from looking from their perspective on how much they would invoice the client for this website: www.bci.digitalprodusa.net would cost them if they were the ones who designed and built the website?

I have learnt a valuable lesson from this project and your comment urges me to be more aware of how to quote any project in the future especially the miner things that you wouldn't think to add on in doing up a quote.
