I am in the area looking for a programmer to create a site for me. I am actually looking into how much time and how much it would cost for someone to program something along the line of http://www.yessy.com (an art selling site). However not an escrow site, in other words all the admin cares about is getting money for the post, the rest the artist is on their own.

Now obviously we have a few tweeks of our own that we would like added to this kind of a site, like 10 featured artists on the fornt page instead of 1, and a few otehr details.

I am not a programmer and I am not sure what would be an opening price to program something like that nor how long it would take... any comments are appreciated.

I'm going to give you the easy answer: post a project to find out ;)

If it were me, I would take anywhere between 2 and 4 weeks to complete a system like that, and this would what the RAC guys call a medium-sized project :) I'd suggest using an opensource gallery system and modding it heavily from there if you want to cut costs.

HTH somewhat,
Neel

I will probably be posting it shortly, but as it is for a client of ours, we need to quote him a timeframe and price, not being a programmer is kind of hard to guage and since we have no quote for him and do not know if he would take the job without one, you get where I am going... Its coming, just need more info before I post it.

Like 42ndfreak said, this can be considered a medium sized project. I see it even has a payment processor, which usually ups the price.
I can't give you a quote, but I'd suggest you open a project with a N/A budget, and then see what the people with "lots" of reviews are bidding. Those are the best people to estimate the price.

If after that you're still not sure, come back here and tell us what the bids are ;)

The way the client wants it is to just collect via Paypal payment for posting, unlike Yessy which is an escrow site. I like your idea of posting with a N\A budget. I will see what I can come up with.
