The average house in the US is aprox 250 thousand, that is how general I am trying to get here. Thanks...
The average web site is $1000 on Scriptlance. Note that this means there are web sites for $100, as well as $5000, though I haven't seen any being more expensive.
Hosting ranges from $3/month for simple PHP, to $30/month for all-included Java/JSP hosting.
I would estimate a one-month project would cost you $800-$1500 if you don't include the graphics design. Anything less than that and you'd find programmers who won't finish the job.

You are most probably right, but it's extremely difficult to say.
But yeah...you have the idea. ;)

Any suggestions on hosting?
I'd suggest first you find a programmer and then together find a hosting company. That way you can consider the price, and the programmer can see if the services provided are good enough.
You could also visit forums on the internet that specifically deal with the subject of hosting and ask what they think.
